Moto Guo launched his label in 2015 and since then has been creating some beautifully geeky collections. I was scrolling through Pinterest and came across a pin of a model strutting down the catwalk. She was wearing an oversized shirt and oversized shorts tied with string around her waist. Not to mention the chunky black shoes with cute little bows attached to them! They looked divine. Of course this is where I first came across Moto Guo’s work which stood out so much it basically jumped out of the screen toward me.
BACK TO SCHOOL WITH MOTO GUO
Much of Guo’s work creates a nostalgic feel as his designs show oversized trousers, skirts and cardigans embellished with little woven presents. The thick black dolly shoes and creepers give a schoolgirl vibe, not only looking super cute but bringing each outfit together with a geeky finish.
He has twisted both modern day styles with the more classic olden day looks. An iconic flowery polo neck with a ruffled collar, paired with some pearl beads hanging from the neck to embellish the outfit. The loose fitted flares also give a vintage gaze, as when you look closely there are delicate little roses embroidered onto each knee. The details to each of Moto’s creations are artistically inventive.
I also love the beautifully odd capes a few of the models wore. Featuring long sharp edges and details hidden on the back, which also give an olden day feel. Each design is fun and playful, Moto’s creative ability is truly remarkable. He really knows how to incorporate the body into his work, creatively distorting their figures by using textures within his designs. Each oversized knit jumper and long flowing patterned skirt look effortless and youthful. Guo gives a childish look to his pieces which is what makes each design look so unique and adorable.
I can’t wait to see what Moto Guo has in store for us all, and hopefully we shall be seeing more of the playfully quirky designs he creates.
