Amelie Poulain

Film characters have been influencing the fashion world for years. From Audrey Hepburn’s classy ‘IT’ girl (Breakfast at Tiffany’s) to Kat Stratford’s 90’s rebel look (10 things I hate about you). Each style shows the characters true attitude making people feel more rebellious themselves when it comes to fashion. WILDABOUT explores the most iconic film characters influencing the fashion world.

Let’s start with the coolest chick; ‘The girl in the green scarf’ AKA Rebecca Bloomwood in ‘Confessions of a Shopaholic’, which I’m watching as a write this (because I’m more obsessed than Miss Bloomwood is about her clothes). Her love for big labels and her charming personality contribute to her effortless style. In each scene Rebecca shines out from the crowd with her colourful garments and sassy accessories, She’s an inspiration to all who love fashion. Even her best friend Suze has amazing fashion sense!

Hair and Style Inspiration

If you’re looking for a more laid-back look, then who better to get inspiration from than Clementine Kruczynski in ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’. She’s not only a fashion icon, she has some major hair inspiration too! Dressing for comfort seems to sum up Clementine’s style quite well however, she always looks effortlessly cool. Clementine lets out a tomboy vibe through her outfits, almost as if she’s still dressing like she did when she was a little girl, which creates a nostalgic feel to her overall look. Even her hairstyles define her character, messy but cute.

One of the most iconic trend setters to inspire the fashion world is of course Margot Tenenbaum, in ‘The Royal Tenenbaums’. With her telephone in one hand and a cigarette in the other (don’t smoke kids) who could dislike the mysterious attitude she gives off. Not to mention her dreamy kohl eyes which give her character even more of an enchanting vibe. She’s channelling a popular 60’s look, which to be honest can never really go out of fashion. It’s quite a simple style, all you need is a tennis dress and a fur coat and the look is complete. However attention to detail is also needed as even her accessories, such as the pretty hairclips are an important part to Margot’s style.

French and Classy

Amelie Poulain

Who could forget the timid but sweet Amelie Poulain in ‘Amelie’. Her style is simple and not too ‘out there’ as Amelie herself is quite a shy character. Amelie’s Parisian style dresses and flowing skirts are a big influence in fashion, especially when paired with some chunky Dr. Martens. The classic tones of reds and greens glow through her clothes which create a warm look, Amelie is a definite fashion icon.

These characters are only a few to name that have inspired the fashion world, creating new trends and influencing what people wear. And of course helping others to find their own unique styles and feel comfortable in their own skin. Keep an eye out for more iconic trend-setters and don’t be afraid to try out your own idea’s! Who knows, you could be influencing anyone!
